Tasting Notes
Heavy bodied and rich with flavor. Mesquite, Plum and Caramel. Dark chocolate in the finish. Pairs excellently with milk and sweeteners.
Background Info
Our Darkest roast. If you like your coffee strong, heavy, and full bodied, this one is for you. Perfect for cream and sugar, sweetened condensed milk, or pairing with a sweet pastry or cake.
Named after Basalt Lava which is characteristically Hard, dark, and black and quite common on our island home in Hawai‘i.
While we have designed this blend with filter coffee and french press applications in mind it also makes excellent espresso as well. Especially for sweetened milk drinks.
This blend is composed of Arabica coffees from South-East Asia and Latin America including some Robusta which helps to give an extra heavy mouthfeel and soften the acidity.
If you prefer to have little roasty smokiness and dark roast bitterness to your cup we suggest brewing with 92C (199F) water. If you prefer more sweetness and less of the dark roast bitterness try brewing with cooler water. 88-90C (190-194F)
